[546] npm install - hangs and does not finish installing

next: Generate static pages with variable number of elements

#Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.13.0-32-generic x86_64) served via digitalocean
node -v
v7.8.0 # installed via nvm

npm -v 
v4.2.0 # installed via nvm

cd to-nuxt-project
npm install
#... stuff happens as normal
Killed         ....] / extract:nuxt: sill doParallel extract 664

upon installation npm hangs at Killed ....] / extract:nuxt: sill doParallel extract 664 and then the process just dies :(
